When Eric suggested I put on one of the masks, I had a moment of hesitation because the interior of each mask has its own tableau and most are 3d, however he rigged it up with fishing line and all I had to do was rest my chin on the bottom. To say i was thrilled with the results would be putting it mildly.
This mask is my self portrait,"Whiter Than White". I made it after the graves of the children at the Residential Schools were discovered. And although it is a mask sitting over my real face, it is also a peeling back of the skin of the real face to expose the pain below. A paradox I hadn't understood about masks until I saw Eric's photo.
