The Water Walker
Updated: Jan 15, 2019
I've been reading about and extraordinary Anishanaabe grandmother called Josephine Mandamin who is part of o group of First Nations women who are known as "The Mother Earth Water Walkers". Josephine Mandamin is walking around the Great lakes to draw attention to the sacredness of water and how we need to respect and honour this gift from the Creator.
You can see her in the top left hand corner. The green and white line represents her journey around the water way which is the blue.
I know this is a style of painting that won't sit well with some people, it is so clearly borrowed from a culture that is not my own. And quite frankly I can't explain it, it is what it is. I don't question where my muse wants me to go.
