The Inspiration for My Pandemic People

The inspiration for the form of my pandemic people with their big heads and small bodies comes from the pre-Christian art work of my Celtic ancestors. This gold work piece from Ireland that dates from 800 CE.

The colours come from my twelve years of living in the Yukon. I spent five of those years in Dawson City which is 500 years from the Arctic Circle. It is a part of Canada that is dark for a a long time in the winter and yet the colours you see are brighter and more electric than most places south of the 60th parallel.

The late Yukon artist, Ted Harrison is a great influence - I love his solid colours and the whimsy in his paintings.

And so the end result has been 15 of these pandemic people. I've finished the series now but I must say I have enjoyed making them so much!
