During our last SWFT Meeting, (Supporting Women, Femmes and Trans artists), I heard myself complain that I feel as if I am making masks for rituals that don't exist.
The person sitting next to me said, "And that's what"s wrong with our society!"
I think they are right, we don't practice rituals properly, but the making of rituals isn't my job. My job is to make the masks.
This mask is called "Broke" because I dropped it when it was finished and broke its lovely shell ears and its beautiful hat.
The mask needed to be made to be part of the the ritual performed so that a person can heal from broken things, be they objects, hearts or relationships.
The fact that the ritual doesn't exist isn't important.
